The Asan Memorial Institute of Management was established in 1997 in recognition of the vital need to develop competent managers and IT professionals to meet the growing needs of the country. During this short span, the Institute has emerged as one of the premier institutes in the South, offering high quality education in the areas of Management and Information Technology. The full time MBA and MCA programmes offered by the Institute are approved by the AICTE, Ministry of HRD, Government of India and are affiliated to the University of Madras.

Mission:-
The mission of the Institute is to achieve excellence through high quality and need-based education with focus on development of individual potential. In tune with this, the courses offered will be contemporary in nature and directly relevant to the market needs. The Institute will provide a conducive and stimulating environment that will lead to academic excellence, character formation and development of individual talents and abilities.

Aims:-
The Institute presently conducts a two year full time MBA programme and a three year full time MCA programme, both affiliated to the University of Madras. The Institute further aims at emerging as a centre for research in Management with facilities for offering M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes. It also intends to offer training and consultancy services in Management, IT and other related areas in collaboration with regional, national or international agencies/institutions.


Campus Infrastructure:-
The Institute is located on a twelve acre campus at Jaladampet on Velachery-Tambaram Road. This is about 20 kms. from the heart of Chennai City and about 10 kms. from Saidapet. The campus is beautifully laid out and developed with landscaped gardens and excellent facilities for sports and games. It has spacious grounds for cricket, hockey and football and well-prepared courts for basket ball, volley ball and badminton. A large and impressive auditorium with a seating capacity of 1500 is also available.
The Institute has a spacious and impressive building (nearly 45,000 sq.ft. area) with several well laid-out class rooms, conference halls, syndicate rooms, library and lab facilities.
The campus is well connected to the Chennai city by MTC bus nos. 51, E51, 51B, 51D and 51H from Saidapet, by A51 and D51 from Broadway/Parrys and by 5A from T.Nagar. The Institute/College buses are also available on all working days, which cover almost the entire city.

Library:-

The Institute has a spacious library having an excellent selection of latest books, magazines, journals and periodicals on Management and Information Technology. The back volumes of leading management journals are also available. The library remains open for nearly 12 hours on all working days for the benefit of students and faculty.

Audio Visual Lab:-

A modern Audio Visual Lab with the-state-of-art equipments like OHPs, Slide Projection system has been set up. A large collection of management and information technology films is also available
 

Hostel:-

Hostel accommodation is provided separately for boys and girls. Wholesome food (vegetarian and non-vegetarian) is served. The hostel blocks have large open space in order to provide a healthy living environment within the campus.

Computer Lab:-
MCA Lab
Separate computer labs for MBA and MCA programmes are available to meet present and future needs. The labs are well equipped with the latest PentiumIV based multimedia systems and networking is done both in Novell Netware and Windows NT. Students are provided hands on experience on all the latest programming languages, RDBMS, OOP'S S/W, in addition to the internet facilities.

Acadamic Programes:-
The Institute offers the following programmes :

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) - 2 yrs. full-time
  • Master of Computer Applications (MCA) - 3 yrs. full-time

    Both the courses have been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, Government of India and have been affiliated to the University of Madras.


Unique Features:-
The programmes follow the scheme and syllabus prescribed by the Madras University. However, in order to build-up a distinctive character and give a developmental orientation, the Institute has introduced several special modules aimed at enhancing the techno-managerial capabilities and sharpening the skills amongst the participants. These modules include:
  • De-freezing and confidence building.
  • Executive communication skills.
  • Extensive hands-on-experience in computers & internet browsing.
  • Group dynamics and inter-personal skills.
  • Personality development.
  • Major thrust on technical competence.
  • Special lectures and seminars on current trends and emerging areas in IT and Management.


Teaching Methodology:-
The teaching methodology followed at the Institute makes extensive use of participative methods. A balanced mix of case analysis, group presentation, seminars, syndicate methods, role-play and lecture sessions are used which provide for intense intellectual stimulation and development of technomanagerial skills. The training sessions are supplemented by the use of teaching aids such as LCD, Video films, Over-Head Projectors and Slide Projectors.
Guest Faculty Seminars:-
Guest Seminars are organised periodically to supplement the classroom teaching. Many senior executives and eminent faculty from premier institutes, universities and industries participate in interactive sessions with students on current topics. These sessions provide a wide exposure to the students on the existing practices and emerging concepts and help them to face the dynamic business environment with confidence.
Management and I.T. Meets:-
The MBA and MCA students organise two mega annual events namely MAGMA and BYTE IT respectively to gain hands on experience in Event Management. These major events are conducted with the active support, sponsorship and participation from major business and industrial establishments in Chennai. Both MAGMA and BYTE IT have been recognised as popular student meets attracting participants from most of the established MBA/MCA institutes in the South. They provide a forum for students to display talents and test their knowledge and skills in a competitive environment.

Industrial Visits and Orientation:-
Industrial visits are organised to acquaint the students with the actual organisational environment where they interact with the workers and the management. These visits provide the students with the much-needed exposure to the practical aspects.

Project Work :-
Project work is an essential feature which provides practical orientation to students. Students select researchable topics or live problems from organisations, make an in-depth analysis, examining them from various angles and execute real time projects. Besides the regular project which is a part of the MBA/MCA curriculum, students are required to do at least one additional summer project for a period of not less than six weeks.

Developmental Activities:-
Programmes on confidence building and personality development are arranged with reputed management consultants to map the personality profile of students, identify their strengths and weaknesses and provide specialised training to correct any deficiency. Realising the importance of effective communication in Management and IT areas, specialised programmes on communication skills are conducted regularly for all the students. These sessions involve extensive use of interactive and practise oriented training to develop skills and build up confidence

Placement and Training Cell:-

The Institute has a creditable placement record for MBA and MCA programmes. The Placement and Training Cell is headed by a qualified and experienced Placement Officer. The Cell assists the students for project placement as well as final placement. On-campus and off-campus placement interviews are arranged during the final semester. Some of the major corporate recruiters during the last year included UTI Bank, Satyam Infoway, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, ABN-AMRO Bank, TCS, DSRC, Terumo-penpol, ICICI Bank, Tata Infomedia, Hutch, HDFC Bank etc.

STEP - 1  

Application& Prospectus
:-
For application and prospectus, apply to : The Administrative Officer, "Asan Memorial Educational Institutions, NO:1, Anderson Road, Cochin House, Chennai-600 006, alongwith a demand draft for Rs.250/- in favour of the "Asan Memorial Association Chennai" if by post & Rs.200/- (if in person). Completed applications alongwith necessary enclosure must be submitted / sent to the Administrator at the above address on or before the last date specified for registration.
Application form can also be down loaded from the Institute Website. The filled up application alongwith Demand draft for Rs.250/- in favour of the “Asan Memorial Association, Chennai”, may be sent to The Administrative Officer, at the above address.

STEP - 2  

Admission Test : -
MBA:- Candidates for MBA admission are required to take the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by the All India Management Association, New Delhi. MAT is an all India level entrance test held normally in Dec., Feb.& May at different centers in the country. The applicants must secure a good score to be considered for admission.
Candidates applying for Government Quota Seats in the Institute must appear for (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET ) for MBA conducted by the Anna University & must submit the application to the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai-6. Details regarding admission to Government Quota Seats are announced by the Government during February/March in all the National Newspapers.
MCA:- Candidates for MCA admission must appear for any of the entrance test approved by AICTE / Government of Tamil nadu.
Candidates applying for Government Quota Seats in the Institute must appear for (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET ) for MCA conducted by the Anna University & must submit the application to the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai-6. Details regarding admission to Government Quota Seats are announced by the Government during February/March in all the National Newspapers.


STEP - 3  

Group Discussion and Interview for MBA :
-
Based of the performance in the MAT test or other approved test, candidates will be called for group discussion and interview at the Institute. The group discussion will be on a topic of current interest or on a business situation. The candidates called for group discussion and interview will be required to appear before the interview panel with all the original certificates in respect of Higher Secondary/+2, Degree/Prov. Certificate with Mark Sheets, Transfer Certificate, Conduct certificate, MAT score card.
Admissions will be based on overall performance in MAT test, academic record , group discussions and interview.
Interview for MCA:- Based on performance in the entrance test & good academic record with not less than 50% marks in their degree examinations will be called for interview. The candidates called for interview will be required to appear before the interview panel with all the original certificates in respect of Higher Secondary/+2, Degree/Prov. Certificate with Mark Sheets, Transfer Certificate, Conduct certificate, Entrance Test score card.
Admissions will be based on overall performance in Entrance Test, academic record, and interview.


Fees:-
Fees structure for MBA & MCA courses are moderate without any donation or capitation fees. Fees structure is normally revised every year which is furnished in Mandatory Disclosure.

The Institute is headed by Dr. P.V. Mathew who has over 30 years of experience in teaching and industry. He is assisted by a team of faculty members who are from various streams of Management and Information Technology specialisations.
